How to prepare for a move: a practical checklist
Print it, stick it on the fridge, tick it off. This is the order we see working best for flats in Warsaw.

4 weeks before
- Book the movers and a backup date.
- Ask both building managers about lift booking and parking.
- Start clearing out: sell, donate or throw away what you will not unpack.
2 weeks before
- Get boxes, tape and a thick marker — or order a packing kit.
- Pack books, seasonal clothes and decorations first.
- Update your address with the post office, your bank and subscriptions.
1 week before
- Label each box with the room and a short note of what’s inside.
- Mark fragile boxes on two sides, not just the top.
- Defrost the freezer and use up food.
The day before
- Pack a “first night” box: chargers, toiletries, towels, kettle, documents.
- Take wall-mounted items down and keep screws in a labelled bag.
- Take photos of the meter readings.
Moving day
Walk the crew through the flat once, show what stays, and keep the documents box with you. At the new place, point to the rooms — labelled boxes go straight where they belong.
